Fresh Pick: ‘90s Jeans
The fun stuff that works with your Core Capsule.
After our recent post featuring Carolyn Besette-Kennedy, it seems only fitting to highlight ‘90s style jeans as this week’s Fresh Pick. What are ‘90s jeans, you ask? They’re a mid to high rise, loose fit silhouette that are straight or slightly boot cut. Think: classic 501 cinched at the waist with plenty of room. We’ve all heard the saying, “If you’re old enough to have worn the trend once, you shouldn’t wear it when it comes back again.” But who made up that rule? And as we get older that’s pretty much impossible the way trend cycles are tightening (but there are, of course, exceptions and we’ll cover that later)
The truth is ‘90s jeans are actually an anti-trend. They are based on the classic Levi’s 501® style – the original jeans that started it all. This Fresh Pick can double as your Core Capsule jeans depending on how loose you go with the fit.
Levi’s has modified its classic 501® to create a 501® '90s jeans with a mid-rise and a loose yet straight fit with just the right amount of bagginess through the leg. They're the vintage jeans you've always dreamed of finding at the thrift store, but without all the rummaging and holes. And the ankle version is great for the shorter gals. Remember, Levi’s run a little small in the seat and thighs — so curvier gals be sure to size up, especially if you want them loose.
Tall friends who want a more fitted version should check out the Madewell Tall ‘90s Straight Jean with magic pockets in front that hold your tummy in– The reviews are kind of insane.
Agolde has a few good styles to choose from, like the super-cool ‘90s Mid Rise Straight, and the best-selling 90’s Crop.
If you’re looking for less volume and a little stretch, AYR’s The La La is inspired by the flattering ‘90s super model styles. We love how these come in two inseams so our friends under 5’6” probably won’t have to get them hemmed. And for our tall friends, Paige’s Stella is very similar and comes in a 31” inseam.
And these Miami Medium Rise jeans give the same classic ‘90s vibe for under $100!
